Dear Parent or Guardian,

My name is Paige Jones and I will be your child's Algebra II teacher for the 2017-2018 school year.  During this school year, you will see many differences between my math class and what classes looked like when we were in school. These changes are being made to better prepare students for college and the workforce.  Lessons will be much more student driven, and there will be application of concepts to real-world scenarios.

Students will be provided with a consumable textbook.  The pages are made to be torn out and kept in a 3-ring binder as we work through the material.  A 1.5-inch binder with 5 dividers works well.  Additionally, students will be given 1-2 days per week of class time during which they will work on their math software (Cognitive Tutor).

Tests and quizzes will be weighted as 60% of the grade, homework as 20%, and Cognitive Tutor (math software) as 20%.  They will receive Cognitive Tutor grades through use of a rubric.  Students will have a calculator available at all times, but there will be some test questions where calculators are not allowed.

Lesson plans are posted by noon on Friday for the following week.  You may reach me by email or phone if you have any questions or concerns.  I look forward to this upcoming school year and working with your student.

Sincerely,

Paige Jones, Ed.D.
